Summary of Case

"The Assistant Commissioner Swat registered a case against the resident editor of Daily Hum Awam Swat, Badar Zaman and his son for writing fake news against the health department on July 18, 2023. Zaman has been affiliated with Daily Hum Awam since 1994 and also involved in part time business, he is a resident editor from Swat. After covering the news the AC and revenue clerk, Badshah Saikh Pahway called Zaman into his office on July 18, 2023 and asked the reason for covering the news against the department, and also harassed him. Speaking to PPF, Zaman said that on July 18, 2023 the AC of the revenue department and senior clerk, Pahway, called him into his office and harassed him and asked him rudely for covering the fake news against him. “Badshah Saikh Pahway said, next time if you write such fake news against me you will face the consequences and we can even abduct you” Zaman added. “He made false allegations against me in the FIR and police tried to arrest me over false charges, however teh Ac and the clerk both are directly involved in the corruption as stated in my story” he added. A first information report has been registered in Police Station Swat under sections 500, 506, 186, 34 according to Pakistan Penal Code. Niyaz Khan, General Secretary of Swat Press Club strongly condemned the fake case registration against the journalist, and demanded from the District Police Officer, Shafiullah Gandapur for the dismissal of an FIR. The case was registered by the AC and his clerk is fake. They even stated the name of the newspaper wrong in the FIR, from this we can believe the case which was registered against him is fake. “If the journalist was guilty then why did they register the case against his son, who is only responsible for his business,, this is unfair to register the case against the family members of Zaman and harassed them” , Khan added. Rafiullah, the correspondent of TNN from Swat told PPF that Badar Zaman is not affiliated with any organisation these days, however he has a side business which he did and due to which it is his routine that he is involved in such case registration.
