Summary of Case

"Chief Reporter of Akhbar-e-Haq newspaper, Gulzar Hussain published Rawalpindi Education Board’s exam results before the official announcement on Oct 28, 2021. The Board chairman’s son also appeared in these exams and the reporter published details of how the chairman’s son obtained these marks. He shared the results and statistics accurately, another news was published after the official announcement of result on Oct 30, 2021 quoted that the previous news was accurate.

On 28 October 2021, the chairman submitted an application in Morgah police station against the reporter and accused reporter of “breaching secrecy” of the board which damaged its staff and the board’s reputation.

Police denied to take any action so Khalid Sarwar, assistant controller secrecy board of intermediate and secondary education, Rawalpindi filed petition in session court Rawalpindi.

Court ordered police to submit answer till Nov 11, 2021. Sub-inspector (SI) Shabbir Hussain submitted his answer in court. Next hearing will be on Nov 22, 2021.

Gulzar Hussain told PPF that He published a news of board exam results before the official announcement, as he criticize the chairman of board, Dr. Ghulam Dastagheer, educational board is now trying different tactics to know his source of news. Gulzar is happy with the support of his organization, Press Club and Union. He was confident and motivated to win the case.

Tariq Ali virk, Secretary Rawalpindi Union of journalists strongly condemn the action of education board against Gulzar Hussain. Educational board is trying to know the source of news which journalist cannot declare according to the Journalists Protection Act, no one can question a journalist for his source. RIUJ is with journalist, their members attended the yesterday’s hearing with Gulzar and will support him in future as well.
