Summary of Case
"Haroon Tanoli, joint secretary of the Abbottabad press club was threatened by Haroon Abbasi, the administration of the tribal council in Sarla a town near Abbottabad on May 6, 2023. Haroon is currently affiliated with “Neo News” and he is also active on social media as well, he is running a Facebook page “Victory media group”. Speaking to PPF, Haroon Tanoli recalled the incident and said on May 6, 2023, Haroon Abbasi the head of administration of the tribal council in Sarla, Abbottabad had called him and threatened him for reporting against the decision of tribal. “Some weeks ago, a family dispute was discussed in a tribal council whereby the collaborative decision of the tribal council a boy was forced to give divorce to a girl which I reported on my Facebook page after which the head of the administration Haroon Abbasi threatened me on call and on text as well” Tanoli added. Syed Kamal Hussain Shah, a former fellow of PPF told that Tanoli reported a story on his Facebook page regarding the issue of a local girl and man where the man was forced to give the divorce to his wife for no reason or else have to pay 5 lacs, for which Tanoli reported and he was threatened by the head of the administration. Naveed Bakoti, former correspondent of PPI and Nawa I Waqt correspondent informed PPF that Tanoli was threatened due to his reporting on his social media accounts regarding a local family dispute. Sardar Naveed Ahmed told PPF that the matter was of two families which were discussed in the tribal council in Sarla a local town of Abbottabad and the decision was biased after one of the family members approached Haroon to report his case and highlight the issue in the news, which Haroon did and after his reporting on social media the head of the administration of tribal council, Haroon Abbasi had threatened Tanoli for reporting against the decision of the tribal council. Raja Muneer Khan, general secretary of the Abbottabad press club told PPF that yesterday the victim did a press conference in the press club as Haroon reported for them and they need justice. However, the FIR is not registered but Tanoli will register the FIR. Saqib Khan, president of the Abbottabad Union of Journalists told PPF that a local person did a love marriage in court, and after the court marriage the girl’s family the boy gave her a divorce and this whole incident was reported by the joint secretary of press club after which the administration of tribal council life threatened to Tanoli and he was trolled on social media as well. “Being a president of Abbottabad press club, the union decides to take this matter to Federal Investigation Agency, and for life threats, the union will report the matter in the police station Cantt” Tanoli added. The press club has strongly condemned the issue and also demanded a fair and prompt investigation for the journalist. Allah Bux, Neo News Out station reporter told PPF that Tanoli informed the organization yesterday and he told that he was trolled on social media and the tribal council’s administration threatened him as well for his reporting on the matter of a family dispute and the organization is also seeing the matter and will take legal action against the culprits. "
