Summary of Case

"On October 9, 2022 Bakhtzada Khan, general secretary of Haripur Union of Journalist and correspondent of Nawa-i-Waqt was seriously threatened by a drug dealer named “Shehryar”. Bakhtzada Khan is also news agent for daily Dawn and The News. Bakhtzada wrote news for the drug dealers and after publishing the news this incident happened. On October 14, 2022 Journalist Bakhtzada Khan told PPF that on October 9, 2022 when he was travelling along with his brother Pasha Khan. Suddenly a motorbike stopped beside them and Shehryar pointed gun and threatened him; “what you are doing keep doing, your white clothes will be red soon” After hearing these words he called his brother Pasha Khan who was standing on some distance, meanwhile the started his bike and he ran away from the spot” Khan added. “Earlier this month, I wrote news against drug dealers but I did not mention any name in my news but it was for him (Shehryar) however, he threatened me due to my news story on drug addiction in university and college even girls are becoming victim of drugs”,Khan added. “After the incident next day on October 10, 2022 I registered case against Shehryar and district police officer Imran Shahid has taken action against it and police is currently tracing him” Khan told. On October 14, 2022 President of Peshawar press club Shehzada Fahad told PPF he is aware of the incident but he is not sure whether the threat is related to journalism or not he said it will be better if you ask from the nearby press clubs or journalists. On October 14, 2022 Yasir Amin president of Haripur Union of journalists told PPF that Bakhtzada Khan covered news story against drug dealer in city and one of the member of drug dealer gang threatened Journalist on gun point. On October 14, 2022 vice president of Haripur Union of Journalists Tahir Zaman told PPF that Bakhtzada Khan wrote news against drug dealers and around four days before drug dealer Shehryar threatened him for writing news. “Once police traced Shehryar then we will do something before police’s report we cannot do anything and definitely we support the journalist in this matter, but police is support and they are tracing the accuser and the gang” Khan added. Hanif Raja, editor of Nawa I Waqt told PPF that Bakhtzada informed him few days ago that he has been receiving threats from the drug dealer, he is an honest regional reporter for our organization. Imran Shahid, district police officer told PPF that police is tracing the accused right now and after finding him we will be able to decide what the matter was in actual."
