FIR dismissed after journalist and land grabber had table talk in jirga.

Summary of Case

"On 10 Oct, 2021, journalist Maqsood Ahmed, associated with Awami Awaz and president of Dhabeji Press club was threatened by Malik Imran Awan, a local land grabber after reporting news related to illegal occupation on historical land of Bhambore by land grabbers in Dhabeji, Sindh.

Mr. Maqsood Ahmed told PPF that he filed a news of illegal occupation on land in August 2021 in his newspaper, local landgrabber Malik Imran, who is also a member of Pakistan People’s party (PPR)’s district council threated him with serious consequences.

FIR was registered in Dhabeji police station same day, police arrested the accused. The news was published in many other newspapers but as Maqsood is the president of Press Club, the accused find it more relevant to threatened him so the voice of truth can be stop.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Dhabeji Police Station, Ghulam Ali, told PPF that Imran threatened Maqsood for his news report against land mafia. The accused has been arrested. However, He denied the connection of PPP with the accused.

President of Thatta Press Club, Iqbal Jakhro condemn the incident and termed it as “attack on freedom of expression”.

Resident Editor of Awami awaz, General Secretary of Hyderabad Press Club Mr. Iqbal Mallah strongly condemned the incident and demanded serious action against arrested accused. He said that despite the connection of PPP the accused has been arrested only because of pressure by all journalist bodies of Hyderabad. "
