Summary of Case

"In another incident that occurred in Sheikh Barkhiyo, Hyderabad, Mudassar Nazar, a sub-editor of the daily Ibrat, was abducted while traveling from Kazi Usman Lako, a local village of Hyderabad. Unidentified individuals were responsible for the abduction. Mudassar Nazar, in an interview with PPF (Pakistan Press Foundation), shared his account of the incident. He explained that on May 21, 2023, when he was traveling from Hyderabad to the local village of Hyderabad for the weekend, his van came to a stop near a village called Hussain Khan Thoro. It was at this point that a black Vigo car pulled over, and four masked individuals emerged from the vehicle and abducted him. ""They covered my face with a piece of cloth and despite showing them my press card, they ignored my pleas. However, they did not mistreat, assault, or abuse me. Instead, they held me captive for two and a half hours in another local village of Hyderabad. Eventually, after realizing they had apprehended the wrong person due to mistaken identity, they released me. They explained that their intention was to apprehend a criminal who was also traveling in the same van,"" Nazar stated. Prior to this incident, Nazar had not received any threats. He emphasized that this was the first time he had ever been subjected to an arrest. Jai Prakash, the editor of Daily Ibrat and general secretary of the Hyderabad Union of Journalists, provided further details to PPF. According to Prakash, Nazar was traveling towards Hyderabad when a black Vigo car stopped his van and abducted him for an hour. While they did not mistreat or assault him, they questioned him extensively before eventually releasing him. The incident was unrelated to journalism but rather a case of mistaken identity, as they had intended to apprehend someone else. The abductors were not identified as police personnel."
