Summary of Case

On 17 Sep, 2021, Saleem Mughal, associated with Dunya News received death threats from Yameen Malik, Lineman of Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) after publishing news of “Corruption Cases registered against Yameen Malik in The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)”.

On Sep 24, 2021, Mr. Saleem Mughal told PPF that in 1995 Yameen Malik was appointed as Lineman in SEPCO and now he has the property of Millions, he is a corrupt man that is why a local resident Muhammad Yousaf informed FIA. FIA registered Cases (Case number 24 and 25) against Yameen Malik, all newspapers cover this news in Newspapers of Aug 9 and 10, 2021. Asghar, a close friend of Yameen offer a brand new car to Saleem and said “We will give you a car of your choice but don’t post regarding Yameen on Social Media and Newspaper”. Asghar threatened for serious action when Saleem refused the offer. Saleem is continuously covering a case of Yameen from the very first day till the hearings in Additional session court than in Sukkur High Court. Advocate Atif Randhawa who is the lawyer of Yameen also threatened Saleem on call. Saleem approached SSP Nowshehra Feroz and apply for protection. According to Saleem none of the police stations is registering their FIR.

On Sep 24, 2021, Munawar Malik, President of Mehrabpur Press club told PPF that all members of the press club published news of Yameen Malik’s case in their newspapers as Saleem is the founder of Mehrabpur press Club so they threatened him for serious consequences. Other journalists associated with Press Club are also receiving minor threats.

On Sep 27, 2021, the President of Nowshehra Feroz Press club Mr. Qazi Zulfiqar told PPF that Saleem Mughal was first threatened by lawyers of Yameen Malik for his news report against Yameen Malik. Then Sajid Hussain, brother of Yameen Malik use abusive language against Saleem on Facebook. Sajid Hussain, Brother of Yameen Malik, also submits application against journalist Saleem Mughal in Additional court. Saleem approached the Police station and lawyers but no one is helping him.

President Shaheed Benazir Abad press club Zulfiqar Khaskheli told PPF that He has no idea about the incident. He confirmed that Munawar Malik is the president of the registered Press Club of Mehrabpur. Need to confirm from him as there are 4 Press clubs in Mehrabpur.

On Sep 27, 2021, News editor of Dunya News, Mr. Javed Iqbal told PPF that Saleem sent a story regarding the corruption of SEPCO employee, He recently informed the organization that he is receiving threats due to that news. He said that this can happen with every journalist, the organization will look into the matter.
