Police Team Formed to Investigate Khalil Jibran’s Murder
A team was formed on June 21 to investigate the murder of senior journalist Khalil Jibran in the Landi Kotal tehsil. The investigation team is led by District Police Officer Saleem Abbas Kulachi and includes Superintendent of Police (Counter-Terrorism Department) Shaukat Khan, SP (Investigation) Roohul Amin Khan, Inspector Abid Afridi, and Sub-Inspector Sultan Raza Khan.
Jibran was killed on June 18 when unidentified individuals intercepted his vehicle, dragged him out, and shot him 19 times near his home in the Mazreena area. He had previously received threats and had faced three prior attacks. A lawyer accompanying Jibran, Advocate Sajjad, was also injured but has refused to cooperate with investigators. Jibran’s body remained at the scene for hours before police transported it to Landi Kotal Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
On June 21, local journalists demonstrated in the Bab-i-Khyber in Jamrud tehsil and demanded a judicial probe and immediate arrest of those behind the murder of Jibran.
In response to the murder, the Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ), Tribal Union of Journalists and Peshawar Press Club staged a protest in Peshawar on June 20. Led by PPC President Arshad Aziz and KhUJ President Nasir Hussain, journalists gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club, holding banners and chanting slogans.
