Summary of Case
On 7 Dec, 2021 Mob near Rawal Chowk attacked on senior reporter of GTV, Haider Shirazi in Islamabad, Pakistan where a drug addicted man was climbed on a pole.
Haider Sherazi told PPF that a person was hanging on a pole, large number of people were gathered there including media. Haider was making footage of the man from his mobile phone when a person from mob shouted “Kill the man having mobile and bag”, mob attacked on him and tried to snatch his mobile phone. When Haider introduce himself as “I am a journalist and covering a incident, which is my duty”. Mob shouted “Don’t leave him”. Meanwhile he dialed contact number of Deputy commissioner Hamza Shafqat but Hamza Shafqat replied "visit nearest police station". Haider visited nearest Shehzad town police station and submitted an application. He also informed his organization, who supported him by giving proper media coverage.
Mateen Haider, bureau chief of GTV told PPF that Haider is a senior, passionate and active journalist. He was there to cover the incident of a man climbing over a pole. Many other media workers were there but they were making footages from distance, Haider tried to go to the nearest place as a result mob misbehaved with him. GTV is with journalist and will follow up the case.
Muhammad Azeem, SHO of Shehzad town police station told PPF that the matter was just a reaction of mob which can be done with any one. Journalist is trying to present the matter as attack on journalism. However, we are investigating the matter further. The person who was climbing over a pole was a drug addicted, police recovered drug from him.
