Summary of Case

"On February 8, 2023 during the news coverage of parliament journalist Haider Sherazi was threatened by the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir. Haider Sherazi is currently affiliated with Geo News as a senior court reporter. Haider Sherazi, senior court reporter of Geo News told PPF that on Feb 8, 2023 in Parliament Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Tanveer Illyas threatened him on asking the question on the current scenario of the Kashmir and involvement of politicians in the development on which he threatened him and said to guards to snatched the mobile phone of journalist. Politician Qamar Zaman Kaira has also condemned the incident of journalist Haider Sherazi and said that “It is the right of a journalist to ask a question however it is up to you to answer that question or ignore that question but misbehaving with the journalist is not an answer and it is a condemnable act. Shakeela Jaleel, in charge of Rawalpindi press club, told PPF that the case of journalist Haider Sherazi is not confirmed. There are two reasons are roaming around: first is Haider was asking a question and second is Haider was constantly trying to annoy the Prime Minister of Kashmir. Rana Azeem, general secretary of Pakistan Federal union of journalists (PFUJ) told PPF that according to the findings of PFUJ the case of Haider Sherazi was not related to journalism as the journalist was involved with the personal matter of him and in this case prime Minister of Kashmir is not involved. PFUJ verified it through the CCTV cameras in parliament. Jawed Noor, court reporter of Neo news told PPF Haider Sherazi asked a question regarding the performance of the government on which Prime Minister Azad Kashmir misbehaved with the journalist which should be strongly condemned."
