Summary of Case
"On July 19, 2022 reporter of ARY News, Hassan Hafeez was come under verbal attack of CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddiqui for questioning the role of Police during riot. Hassan Hafeez told PPF that he was covering by polls at PP- 168 Lahore for ARY news when he saw the situation between workers of political parties Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Pakistan Tehreek –i- Insaf became worse even the polling was stopped in 8 polling stations. According to Hassan, police and dolphin force was present at the spot but they could not handle the situation until the arrival of Pakistan rangers. CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddiqui visited that polling station later on same day, during his media talk Hassan questioned: “Polling was stopped for hours, why the police could not do anything”. CCPO reacted and said: “How dare you say like that” and demanded apology from Hassan, he added that Bilal ordered his constable to take him inside and “wants to harass him”. By the end of Media talk, Bilal again called Hassan and enquired his organization, Hassan introduced himself as a reporter of ARY. According to Hassan, Bilal said that he expects this from ARY and abused Hassan. News package of the attack was broadcasted on ARY but no further action was taken by anyone. President Lahore Press Club, Azam Chaudhry demanded action against CCPO and told PPF that such actions must be stopped, no one can stop the voice of press. "
