Summary of Case

"On 13 April 2023, Daily Pindi Today published a news article regarding the illegal business of a housing society in Rawalpindi. CEO Dr. Sharif and GM Marketing Sajjad Khattak threatened the regional head of Koh-e-Noor TV and Daily Pindi Today’s Chief Editor M. Iftikhar Bhatti with kidnapping and threat to life. The chief editor said that he published news about the housing society with facts. Police did not take yet action against the accused. Speaking with PPF, Bhatti said that a few months ago he published a news story in his newspaper Daily Pindi regarding the business of a housing society in Rawalpindi, after which on April 13, 2023 CEO of the illegal business of a housing society Dr. Sharif and GM Marketing Sajjad Khattak threatened the journalist for covering against him. Bhatti registered a complaint at the police station but the police did not show up and did not pursue the matter. Syed Sajjad Shah, bureau chief of Koh-e-Noor News Karachi told PFF that the matter was related to journalism and he did cover the news against the illegal Rawalpindi Development Authority and after which the CEO and general manager of marketing Sajjad Khatak seriously threatened him. Ijaz Dogar, managing director of Koh-e-Noor News told PPF that the matter of Iftikhar Ali Bhatti was directly related to journalism as the journalist was seriously threatened by the illegal building housing society’s officials due to his news stories."
