Summary of Case
"ABN News channel’s crime reporter Jamshaid Qadir was stopped from covering an incident on 3 April 2023 by Station House Officer Khizer Hayat in the jurisdiction of Sadiqabad Police Station in Rawalpindi, the reporter said he was doing his duty. The SHO directed his subordinates to take the reporter away from the spot refusing to go away, the SHO ordered subordinates to detain him at the police station. The reporter was allowed to go after intervention by his colleagues the reporter submitted a complaint against the SHO in New Town Police Station, Rawalpindi, but the police did not proceed with the application. Speaking with PPF, Qadir shared that his cameraman Qamar Shahzad and Qadir was manhandled by the SHO upon asking a question related to lack of security after which the complaint was submitted by the reporter in New Town police station however the departmental inquiry was started by the SSP operations Amir Niazi but the SHO was transferred to Islamabad from Rawalpindi and inquiry was left in between and we also did not pursue the application further. Malik Imran, in charge of Ausaf broadcasting news channel Rawalpindi, told PPF that the mishap created in the local market during the days of Ramzan on April 3, 2023, when our reporter Qadir and his team were manhandled and misbehaved by the SHO for asking him the question on lack of security in the local market upon which the SHO misbehaved and harassed the team."
