Summary of Case
"On June 7 2022, freelance photojournalists Iqbal Mohmand and Hussain Ali of Andolou, were harassed and their cameras were broken by Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam (F) workers while covering their protest rally in Peshawar. According to photojournalists, “we complained and reported the case to the leadership, but no action was taken yet by them.” On June 7, 2022 photojournalist of Andolou Hussain Ali and video journalist Hasnain Ali of same news agency were stopped from covering a protest of political party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) in Peshawar press club. On July 29, 202 Hussain Ali told PPF that he and Hasnain Ali went to the Peshawar press club for covering the protest of JUI-F and upon entering press club, one of JUI-F’s worker came and started talking ill to them. The other workers of JUI-F also broke their cameras according to Hussain. An FIR was going to be filed but the workers later on apologized on this matter however, they did not pay single penny for broken cameras. Hussain further added that their employer news agency did not take any step for supporting them either. On July 29, 2022 General Secretary of Peshawar press club, Shehzada Fahad told PPF that reporters attended a protest at Peshawar press club by JUI-F and the workers of JUI-F stopped them and started abusing them and they also broke their cameras after this incident Peshawar Press Club releases condemnation in support of photo journalists and raised a voice for justice but after few days members of JUI-F came and apologized on this matter. Also he shared press Release of this matter on Whatsapp. On July 30, 2022 video journalist Hasnain Ali told PPF some prominent workers of JUI-F misbehaved with Hussain and Hasnain both and they also had a fellow, Muhammad Iqbal, who was behind them. Following the misbehavior from protestors, journalists boycotted the session. The matter was resolved after few days, when JUI-F workers made an apology to them. On August 25 2022, upon following up on the case, Muhammad Iqbal told PPF that only three journalists were covering the news, two of the photojournalists were from a Turkish Agency and Muhammad Iqbal was covering the case for Express news. He informed that the crowd started to get disrespectful towards the journalists and Muhammad Iqbal tried to resolve the clash but there was no action taken. Therefore, both Hussain and Hassan boycotted the session at Namak Mandi."
