FIR was not register, matter resolved verbally

Summary of Case

On 14 Sep, 2021 Police threatened journalist Manzar Shigri associated with Samaa News channel to register FIR against him after he shared status against local police on his Facebook account in support of his journalist colleague Amjad Hussain Barcha.

Police arrested Amjad Hussain, associated with Daily Ausaf a day before on Sep 13, for breaking news against the DIG Dr. Mian Saeed for harassing policewomen in Gilgit police training center on his Facebook page “Progressive Gilgit Balitistan” and released him after protest of journalist bodies. Manzar shared status regarding the incident on his Facebook account and was active part of protest.

President of Gilgit Press Club, Khursheed, told PPF he condemn the reaction and behavior of police against journalist however, Manzar crossed his line too while writing. We should not cross our ethical limits while writing against any of the official. He discussed the matter with Inspector General of Gilgit Police and resolved the matter without registration of FIR.

Manzar Shigri told PPF that our security agencies cannot bear any kind of criticism. No FIR was registered against him and matter has been resolved. He did not inform his employer organization.
