Summary of Case
"On 25 Oct, 2021 Media crew of 24 news – reporter Saulat jafri, cameraman Sher Faraz and driver Muhamamd Saad - was attacked by team members of hydrant water plant in Manghopir for making footage of illegal water hydrant.
On Oct 27th, 2021 Director News of 24 News told PPF that our team went for coverage of illegal water hydrant in Manghopir then some unknown persons beat them and gave life threats to team, they then runaway.
On 28-Oct-21 24 News Channel Journalist Saulat Jaffri, who was attacked told PPF that he and his team was making footage of illegal water hydrant in Manghopir while making footage, 3 persons came and threatened them. They tried to stop them for making footage. Then they were gathered by 3 more people and who pointed gun on Saulat and started beating the team. Media team escaped from there because of the death threats.
Next day, Police claimed that they had arrested culprits without registration of any FIR but unfortunately Police arrested wrong persons. Then media team registered FIR on Oct 28 in DIG office.
Crime Reporter Association’s general secretary Sameer Qureshi strongly condemned the violence on media team and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits in conversation with PPF on Oct 29, 2021.
Station house officer (SHO) of Manghopir police station, Liaqut Jamshed told PPF that we have registered FIR andarrested two culprits but 24 news team denied to recognized culprits now we are searching for more to arrests.
Talking to PPF General Secretary of Karachi Union of journalists (KUJ), Faheem Siddiqui strongly condemned the attack on freedom of expression and demanded immediate arrest of the responsible. "
