Summary of Case

"Journalist Muhammad Hassan Raza received serious threats from a member of Terror group, Lala Shehbaz Khan on call for unknown reasons on March 23, 2023. Muhammad Hassan Raza is currently affiliated with Dunya News Lahore as deputy bureau chief. Muhammad Hassan Raza registered the FIR in police station Gujar Singh Lahore under section 1885 -25 D and 506, The telegraph act. Muhammad Hassan Raza, bureau chief of Dunya News told PPF that in the morning and at night he received threatening calls from a person named “Lala Shehbaz Khan” after which he registered an FIR last night after office. “He called me from an American number and threatened me and said to stop the news coverage which you're doing these days otherwise you will be responsible for the consequences” Raza added. Speaking to PPF Raza informed that “I asked who are you? When I asked the police, Lala answered, after this conversation I decided to register the FIR against the criminals, when I told the Station House Officer about Lala and asked about him he said Lala is an absconder terrorist and police are searching him”. Raza said he is not sure why Lala called him and threatened him, Raza told that he has been covering different beats but mostly he covered political beats against the corruption and current situation of politics but this time he received a threat from a terrorist which is nothing but a shock to him. According to the FIR, an American number (19294264307+) Raza received a call from a person named Lala Shehbaz and he threatened the journalist for covering the news against his leader. FIR number is 832/23. Muhammad Mudassir, Investigation officer of Journalist Hassan Raza has informed PPF that proceedings are in process and currently police are investigating the matter and the matter is in the knowledge of Chief Minister of Punjab, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and in few days’ police will share the reports with authority as well. Kamran Tasaduq, ASI of police station Gujar Singh told PPF that the investigation is in process and cannot say anything right now. Rana Azeem, general secretary of Pakistan Federal union of journalists told PPF that PFUJ has condemned the threats to journalist Hassan Raza and he claimed that Lala Shehbaz has threatened him, according to the media reports Lala is currently in a local hospital of Canada due to his injury in the leg and he threatened him from there and also PFUJ is investigating the matter right now and will update accordingly. "
