Summary of Case
On April 21, 2020 Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) imposed fine of Rs. 1 Million on Dawn News for airing fake news pertaining to demise of British Prime Minister.
Pemra first issued show cause notice to Dawn on 7 April, 2021 under PEMRA Ordinance 2002, Act 2007 Sec 20 (F) and Sections 3 (1) (I, k, l), 4(1) , 4(7)(a,c) , 4(10), 5, 17 and 22 of 2002 ordinance. Pemra also ordered Dawn News to on air apology and directed to appear for personal hearing.
On 10 April, 2021 Bureau Chief of Dawn Mr. Qazi told PPF that the matter was resolved by verbal settlement.
