Summary of Case
"Raja Israr, reporter of Daily Tameel was threatened by the local contractor of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) in Islamabad for taking instances of installing transformers in housing societies on April 4, 2023. Raja registered the case at Kohsar police station, and an FIR was registered on April 4, 2023. Raja Israr, the crime reporter of the daily Tameel, informed PPF that he was covering a story on IESCO. when he first asked questions about the IESCO's local contractor Tahir Sandhu regarding the supply of transformers to the housing societies, he ignored the questions. He called Israr and threatened him to interrogate the matter of the transformer. “They threatened me for asking questions related to transforming transformers into housing societies. I also asked him for the approval of these installations, to which he did not respond at first. Then he called me and gave serious life threats on call and voice notes, which he deleted later,” Israr added. “Even police registered my case after three to five days, and they did not even register the complete FIR”, Israr added. Tariq Ali Virk, general secretary of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists, told PPF that the matter was related to journalism as Israr was threatened due to the interrogation on the corruption of CDA in Islamabad. “RIUJ has strongly condemned the threats, and police are also looking into the matter”, Virk added. Raja Israr, a local correspondent in Islamabad, told PPF that he is busy right now, and for his matter, it will be better to contact Saeed, the legal advisor of the National press club. Shakeela Jaleel, joint secretary and in charge of the National Press Club, told PPF she was unaware of the details; however, the case happened with Raja Israr in Islamabad. ""Raja Ateeq-ur-Rehman, the editor of the daily Tameel, has informed PPF that Raja did cover a story on the illegal installation of transformers. As an editor, Ateeq instructed him to do this story directly related to journalism. -Sajjad Anjum, an Investigation officer of Kohsar police station, told PPF that police had called Tahir Sandhu to a police station. Still, he did not come down and showed up late at the police station, and he registered his stance that Raja Israr was asking for the deal/money for the news stories on rejecting the deal; Raja wrote the complaint at the police station. After this Investigation officer is on leave, he will resume the investigations on Thursday, April 13, 2023."""
