Summary of Case

"On November 19 and 20, 2022 the team of Geo News in Peshawar started a special transmission related to the hike in crimes in Peshawar and on performance of Peshawar police named “Jeenay do Peshawar”. In this transmission different crime reporters and bureau chief of Geo News took part and interviewed CCPO Peshawar Muhammad Ejaz and other police officials. After the transmission IG police Mauzam Jah Ansari removed Rasool Dawar, a crime reporter of Geo News from the Whatsapp group in which all the police officials and team of Geo news were added before and threatened Rasool Dawar and his team for airing news package in against of Police. Rasool Dawar did not register any FIR. On November 22, 2022 Rasool Dawar told PPF that CCPO Peshawar Muhnad Ejaz got offend after the news package shared by Geo news on Whats app group of Peshawar police and Geo News team and removed him from the group and threatened him on call for making that news package. “Also CCPO ordered all the police stations to ban all the journalist’s in police stations” Dawar added. On November 23, 2022 Peshawar press club’s president Shahzada Fahad told PPF that the matter is resolved between police and Geo news team. In the official meeting with IG Peshawar Mauzam Jah Ansari, he ordered to CCPO Peshawar to lift the ban on Journalists in all the police stations. On November 23, 2022 President of Khyber Union of Journalist Nasir Hussain told PPF that he was also a part of the meeting in which IG Peshawar satisfied the journalists and the Journalist community that journalists would not be harassed in Peshawar. On November 23, 2022 Bureau chief Geo News Shakeel Farman Ali told PPF that the matter is resolved now after the meeting held with Rasool Dawar, Peshawar press club’s president and IG Peshawar Mauzam Jah Ansari. In the meeting IG assure Press club and Geo News team that he is embarrassed for the inconvenience that happened and he also makes sure that the journalists are safe and there will be no restriction in police stations."
