Summary of Case

"Eight journalists were manhandled and physically tortured by police officials in the jurisdiction of Bhara Kahu police station, Islamabad on May 28th, 2023. According to media reports the journalists were covering the protest against murder of a minor girl, the journalists were physically tortured when they tried to interview the mother of the murdered girl by the police officials. After torturing the journalist police detained them for hours and then they were later released. The victim journalists were Nasir Khattak reporter of K21 News TV, Naeem Minhas, reporter of Daily Inkashaaf,Islamabad, Rizwan Minhas, reporter of Royal TV, Kamran Abbasi of Daily Markaz, Islamabad, Shaikh Imran, cameraman of Channel-4, Waseem Qureshi, cameraman of TV Today, Hafiz Tahi, reporter of Nawa-e-Islamabad, Javed Malik, reporter of Daily Taseer. Islamabad. According to the General Secretary of Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists this case was related to journalism and one of the police officials were suspended after this case."
