Summary of Case
"On July 13, 2023, a Senior Journalist of Daily Wahdat Newspaper Shahzad Ahmed was assigned to cover the news of a teacher’s protest in front of Government High School No. 1, GT Road, Peshawar. The feudal lord Rao Hashim objected to the presence of journalists on the spot and tried to stop their coverage. Initially, heated arguments were exchanged between the journalists and Hashim. Later, Hashim called the Assistant commissioner and asked him to confiscate the devices from journalists FIR was registered in this case Shahzad Ahmed is a photo Journalist for the Press Club Islamabad speaking to PPF, (August 31,2023)“ Ahmad said: “I was covering the teacher’s protest . During the coverage the feudal lord and Assistant Commissioner of the Ahmed further added that there were heated conversations exchanged between the two men, the conversation involved an argument behind the covering of the teacher’s protest. “Hashim also attempted to snatch the camera from me. “ Ahmed added. Ahmed additionally added that Hashim tried to snatch his camera but when he faile din his attempt, police officials snatched the camera from Ahmed. On the request of Peshawar Press Club President Arshad Aziz Malik, Ahmed got his camera back, but all the photographs from the event were deleted. And his phone was formatted, Ahmed told PPF. He further added that no FIR was registered in this case. On August 29, 2023, the Peshawar Press Club President, Arshad Aziz Malik, told PPF that he was informed about the event through Shahzad Ahmed when he reached out to him with the complaint that Rao Hashim, accompanied by Police Officers, had confiscated his camera. The Daily Wahdat News Paper’s Chief editor Syed Haroon Shah, told PPF that Shahzad Ahmed was assigned to make a cover story on the teacher’s protest in front of Government High School No. 1, GT road Peshawar. He added that Hashim was infuriated to see journalists covering the protest; he allegedly added thatmain stream media .Rao didn’t want to highlight the teacher’s issue on the so he called the police and confiscated their cameras."
