Summary of Case

"A Senior News reporter of Express Tribune, Syed Safdar Rizvi was threatened by Dr. Mohammad Tariq, Dr. Tariq Mehmood, head of the investigation committee for covering the story related to a Harassment case filed by a female student of IBA on June 2, 2023, in Karachi, Sindh. Speaking to PPF, Safdar told that on June 2, 2023, he was covering the story of a harassment case filed by female teachers of IBA. On June 13, 2023; The case was about two female teachers who protested outside the director’s office for being evicted from Visiting Faculty Residence of the institute. IBA issued a show cause notice for two unmarried female teachers who were being shifted to a university hostel and were deprived of housing facilities by the IBA administration. The reason behind eviction is still not known. Safdar allegedly told that Dr Tariq threatened him and asked him to refrain from the issue, or else Safdar will face serious consequences. According to Express Tribune, https://tribune.com.pk/story/2421523/iba-female-teachers-report-discrimination In this regard, when Dr. Tariq Mehmood, head of the investigation committee, was contacted, he initially said, ""This is confidential information, I cannot tell anything."" On asking more questions, he told the scribe, ""Do not call me again, if you do, I have a lot of links in intelligence (agencies). I will know who shared my number with you and why you are behind this case."" “Even after months I am facing issues of harassment” he added. Safdar shared that he felt like an unknown vehicle chased him recently, which is the reason he is not sharing any details regarding this issue with anyone and resisted. Speaking to PPF Karachi Press Club President Saeed Sarbazi confirmed that FIR has not been registered for the case of Safdar. He said that Safdar did not approach Press Club and he had not informed Press Club about his case Express Tribune’s Editor Naveed Hussain, informed PPF, that the incident was reported to PFUJ. He also informed that Safdar himself resisted filing the FIR for the incident. He concluded his statement that the matter was later resolved with an apology to Safdar Rizvi by Dr. Tariq. Speaking to PPF, on July 25th Karachi Union of Journalists President Faheem Siddiqui told that he has no knowledge related to the case. On Aug 10, 2023, Safdar told PPF that Dr. Tariq Mahmood apologized to him for his inappropriate language and behavior later in the case."
