Summary of Case
"On February 9, 2024, three to four journalists who were present where police was beating and adbucting Daniyal Aziz, a PTI-backed independent candidate, were also subjected to violence and harassment by the police. They were reportedly beaten and harassed by the law enforcement officers. Those journalists belonged to Dunya News, Hum News, Suno News and 92 News. The incident took place while two to three journalists were present at the scene and covering the activities. The police allegedly assaulted, harassed and snatched mobile phones of these journalists as well. On February 12, Hum News correspondent Dilshad Sharif told PPF that he had been following the vehicle of Daniyal Aziz, along with several other journalists from different organizations. Suddenly, the police intervened, halting Daniyal Aziz's vehicle and initiating a brutal assault on him before abducting him. The situation quickly escalated as the policemen also subjected Dilshad and the other journalists to unwarranted harassment and physical violence. Additionally, the policemen confiscated their mobile phones during the ordeal. On February 12, the chief of Hum News OSR 24, Ghazanfarexpressed his lack of knowledge regarding the incident and conveyed his reluctance to discuss the matter further. On February 12, 24, DPO Mustafa, in a conversation with PPF, denied the occurrence of the reported incident. According to DPO Mustafa, there was no such event as described by the journalists, labeling their news as fake news. --- Dawn: Shakargarh journalist Dilshad Sharif said about 30 to 40 policemen stopped Daniyal and they wanted to forcibly take him with them. When Daniyal asked the policemen about the reason for his arrest, the police tortured him and pushed him into the police van. Dilshad said the media persons were also subjected to torture for not giving them cameras and mobile phones to the police. Later, the journalists held a protest in Narowal against the police violence.
