Summary of Case

"On 19 June 2022, Zamin Hussain, Naya Kal newspaper reporter, received death threats from a citizen after reporting news of electricity theft in Tehsil Rojhan in Rajanpur district in South Punjab. On August 15, 2022 Journalist Zamin Hussain told PPF that along with the team of WAPDA and MEPCO Zamin went on coverage to Mirapur, Dildar in Rajan Pur. WAPDA had insights from one of the locals that some locals in Mirapur were involved in electricity theft due to which the raided the area. Zamin was doing his job and started recording snippets of the transformer. Upon knowing this some people from Mazari family attacked Zamin. After the incident, Zamin filed complaints of the attackers and after a few days Mazari family visited the press club and made an apology to Zamin Hussain and he forgave them. On August 15, 2022 Rajanpur press club president Shahzad Manzoor, told PPF that Zamin Hussain is currently working in Naya Kal newspaper as a senior reporter and family of Mazari attacked him for covering the electricity theft along with WAPDA’s presence and he informed that no other journalist was there except of Zamin."
