Summary of Case
"On 16 July 2021 a group of shopkeepers in Peshawar beat up GTV News channel’s reporter Abdul Rehman and cameraperson Ashfaq Hussain while they were on professional duty on Warsak Road in Peshawar.
Abdul Rehman told PPF that He and his cameraperson was on office assignment for report related to Vegetables. He went to nearest market for recording, they were making footage of vegetable shop when nearest shopkeeper of Medical store came there and started abusing them and asked to stop coverage. Media crew tried to clear their point of view that they were making footage of vegetable’s shop for news package but the shopkeeper misbehaved with them. The camera of GTV was damaged in the attack. No FIR was register however police arrested the accused. Later on, Peshawar press Club administration and Bureau chief of GTV Mr. Imran pressurized them to resolve the matter by verbal communication. Abdul Rehman was not happy with the role of Press Club and GTV.
Cameraperson Ashfaq Hussain told PPF that he along with his reporter Abdul Rehman went to local market at warsak road for News package related to Vegetables when a local shopkeeper tried to stop them and misbehaved with them. According to Ashfaq that shopkeeper is politically influential person of the area, he has back of ruling party “Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)” that is why Press Club and Employer Organization resolve the matter verbally. He was not happy with the decision of Press Club and GTV administration.
Bureau chief of GTV Mr. Imran yousafzai told PPF that it was a matter of misunderstanding as Media crew set there camera for recording of Vegetable shop but the neighbor shopkeeper of Medical store thought that they were making footage of his shop. The matter has been resolved by verbal apology in presence of Peshawar Press Club’s administration, reporter, cameraperson and his. "
