Police wiithdraw The FIRs registered against journalist Ahmed Nawaz and released him

Summary of Case

"On 5 June, 2021 Punjab Police tortured on Bol News reporter Ahmed Nawaz after cases were registered at behest of Personal Assistant (PA) of MNA Sardar Muhammad Jaffar Khan Leghari, Mr. Qasim in Rampur, Rajanpur district.

According to the details the journalist reported embezzlement in Government run development projects.

On July 8, 2021 Mr. Ahmed Nawaz told PPF that He made a report which was against the Personal Assistant (PA) of MNA Sardar Muhammad Jaffar Khan Leghari, Mr. Qasim that Qasim is involve in corruption of 8 Crores in a government-run development projects as commission. After the news goes on air, following the order of higher authority, police arrested Ahmed and brutally beat in the lookup of Thana city Jampur in the presence of PA Qasim, SHO Mr. Ghaffar and 3 other policemen in the night. Next morning on June 5, 2021 Police registered 2 FIRs of Extortion and attempt to Murder against him upon request of Qasim and his friend Ayaz. Then Rajanpur press club and journalist friends protested also Bol News especially Editor in chief of Bol Mr. Nazeer laghari spoke in favor of Ahmed. Mr. Nazeer in his show “Aik Laghari sab Par Bhari” discussed matter of Ahmed and urged government officials to take action.

Ch Shaukat Mahmood Basra from PTI condemn the act. After the pressure, Ahmed was presented in Civil Judge Court where police forcefully took thumbprint and sign of Ahmed on a white blank paper and later on the paper was presented in court as apology letter.

Police withdraw all cases against Ahmed on June 7, 2021 because of pressure from Journalist community. Ahmed further said that Police had not register his complain and stopped him for proper medical treatment but his treatment is continue in a private hospital. He will again protest with his journalist community in front of official’s office soon till the suspension of SHO Ghaffar.

On July 8, 2021 Editor in Chief of Bol News Mr. Nazeer Laghari told PPF that Ahmed was tortured by police because of his reports against Personal Assistant (Locally Call Munshi), Ahmed has full support from Bol News. Bol on aired news of his attack several times. Nazeer himself dedicated 2 shows to the attack and Legal Team of Bol News is also providing help to Ahmed. They stressed government officials to take action.

On July 8, 2021 SHO of Jampur police Station Mr. Ghaffar Girmani told PPF that Ahmed is a journalist who used his power for wrongdoings. Ahmed threatened many persons in the area and demanded extortion. Ahmed demands 50,000 rupees from Qasim the Personal Assistant of local MNA and threatened him that if Qasim will not pay required amount so, Ahmed will give news against him. When Qasim refused to give required amount Ahmed on aired fake news against Qasim. Qasim then informed us, Police then took action. The marks of torture on Ahmed’s body are because of his personal conflict with someone. In Civil Court Jampur, Ahmed officially apologized from Qasim.Then they organized Dua-e-Khair together.

*According to Ahmed Nawaz Mr. Ghaffar tortured him, Mr. Ghaffar is still on duty. No other person from Police is commenting on the matter.*

On July 7, 2021, President of Rajanpur Press Club Mr. Shahzad Manzoor told PPF that they are with Journalist Ahmed for any action, they protested for him and they will again protest if Ahmed wants because they know that Ahmed is suffering from all these things just because of his journalistic work. "
