Summary of Case
On May 11, Sardar Ayaz, reporter for ARY News from Muzaffarabad, was injured with a glass bottle, hit his hand in an attack by protestors while he came for coverage to the spot at Eidgah road. Kashmir Tribune reporter, Alisha Andleeb speaking to PPF said, a protest had been ongoing for two days in Muzaffarabad as the protestors had demanded subsidies on flour, load shedding, and cheap electricity for the residents. Ayaz’s hand got injured by a glass bottle, and this was from the crowd as police were cooperating with the media. Sardar Ayaz, the reporter for ARY News, told PPF that there was a protest going on for 11 months in Kashmir, and they were demanding subsidized flour and cheap electricity. There were almost 1.5 lac people who were protesting. Ayaz told PPF that the police had cooperated and covered the media person however, the bottle hit was by the protestor, and it was not a targeted attack on him.

Asif Raza Mir, president of the TV Journalists Union of Kashmir, told PPF that Sardar Ayaz was injured by the protestors as they thought he was a police person because he was wearing a bulletproof, so they started throwing glass bottles. Mir further said that the network and internet have not been working in Muzaffarabad, as there was a complete ban on networks and the internet by the government.
