Summary of Case

"Awami Awaz’s Bureau Chief Ghazi Bajeer in Islamkot was stopped from covering and taking sot in the premises of Islamkot Police Station on August 1, 2023, in Islamkot, district Tharparkar. Speaking to PPF, Bajeer shared that yesterday night he was present in the Islamkot Police Station and was taking interview of a child named Rustom who was raped by the local driver of Islamkot during coverage of Islamkot Police Station’s SHO Zakir Bux Bairani stopped Bajeer from coverage and snatched his mobile phone. “I was not only covering the sot of the raped child however since the past week I have been covering the news against the police officials in Isamkot as well as they were allegedly involved in the drug dealings, so they are targeting me specifically” Bajeer added. Awami Awaz Deputy Editor Nasir Khatak shared that due to Bajeer’s reporting regarding child rape in Islamkot, Tharparkar Bajeer was manhandled and stopped from coverage. “Awam Awaz is the only organization in Sindh that is doing unbiased journalism and working against the odds of the society” He added. 92 News district reporter Ali Gul Rind told PPF that today in support of Bajeer all the journalistic bodies protested and demanded justice for Bajeer as snatching mobile phones and stopping a reporter from his duty is not acceptable in any conditions and it is considered an attack on freedom of speech. Islamkot Press Club President Ashok Sharma shared that Bajeer was covering the arrival of Rustom at Islamkot Police Station yesterday around 7 pm and SHO Zakir Bux Bairani stopped Bajeer from coverage and snatched his phone as well, members of the Press Club protested today in his support and demanded from authority to remove SHO for insulting and manhandling the reporter."

Press club 1: "Gojra Press Club’s General Secretary Rana Mashrood Rashid among two other local journalists went to the Municipal office to meet Chief Officer Ishtiaq Gondal on August 2, for the follow-up of their application submitted by Rashid on July 24, in which he asked for the official documents of the Gojra Press Club which was sealed in 2022 by Municipal committee. In the application, Rashid asked to provide the sealed documents of Gojra Press Club and for the follow-up of his application he went to the Municipal office where the staff and Chief Officer Ishtiaq Gondal misbehaved with him and when they tried to make a video of the staff Chief Officer Ishtiaq Gondal snatched their phone and registered counter-case against them in City Police Station Gojra. Speaking to PPF, Rashid shared that he went for the follow-up for the application submitted to Gondal and instead of answering them Gondal and his staffer started beating Rashid and his two other colleagues including Shahid Hussain Jutt and Ishtiaq Darweshi. “We went to the office to follow up with the application, and when they started beating us one of my colleagues, Ishtiaq Darweshi started making videos of the violence, and Gondal snatched his phone and manhandled him and brutally pushed us from the office,” Rashid told. "
