Summary of Case
"Team of Neo News’s “Pukar” was attacked by the drug dealers o December 19, 2022 when the team went to Farooqabad to cover a show on drug dealers FIR was registered by the bureau chief of Neo news in Gujranwala. However no one has been arrested. On January 9, 2023 Shafqat Imran, bureau chief of Neo news told PPF that team Pukar went to village “Chota Sarkari” to cover a show. Upon arrival team came to know that the rehabilitation center, to treat people who are not mentally stable and drug addicted is not registered and managed by locals. In that center there was not a single doctor present, all the locals were treating people by locking them in the center. “A strong mafia involved in this illegal rehabilitation and the purpose of making the centre is to detained people and used them for illegal activities. Around 10 to 12 people are running this center, when our team reached there and we started coverage they attacked on our team, they harassed us, they stopped us from coverage and what not” Imran added. “Police came to the place after an hour and after this incident police did not do anything police registered the FIR but no such action has been taken as police is also involved in this mafia” Imran told. When the team entered the area, the locals started misbehaving with the team and they attacked them as well, they manhandled our Anchor Tehmina Sheikh and her reporter fellow Aqsa. On January 7, 2023 Rana Usman, president of Sheikhupura press cubtold PPF that the incident happened in Farooqabad and an FIR of the incident was also registered at that time. Rizwan Bajwa, senior correspondent of Neo news recalled the incident and told PPF that police is not taking any legal action against them as the mafia is strong and they are still doing the illegal stuff in that rehabilitation center, On January 9 and 10, 2023, PPF tried to contact Muhammad Yaseen, ASI of police station Saddar district Sheikhupura but every time when PPF called the ASI said: “he is busy and he cannot talk”."
