Summary of Case
"On Jan 24, 2022 Malik Abdul Rasheed, reporter of Rohi 24 and Asif Khokar, cameraman daily Azad Safar Multan was beaten in Assistant Commissioner’s office in Hasilpur, Bahawalpur, Punjab.
On 28th January 2022, Malik Abdul Rasheed told PPF that he and his fellow journalist from Hasilpur press club Asif Khokar went to assistant commissioner’s office for coverage of the press talk of Imran Marwat, an additional deputy commissioner revenue (ADCR) Bahawalpur.
Abdul Rasheed questioned ADCR that “If someone working as a government official without any appointment then what you do?”
ADCR answered: “We don’t know someone who is working illegally”.
At that moment Malik Abdul Rasheed provides an application that one person name Zeeshan alias Chahana working from previous 6 years in Assistant commissioner’s office and taking bribe from people who used to come for their work. ADCR Imran Marwat replied that he will definitely take an action against him.
After the press talk Zeeshan along with his accomplice’s assassinated journalist Malik Abdul Rashid in the Assistant Commissioner's office and broke the camera of Asif. Both journalists went to Hasilpur Police Station for the FIR, police filed an FIR but yet to arrest Zeeshan Chahana, the person working illegally in Assistant commissioner’s office.
On 28th January 2022, Asif Kokhar told PPF that he covered Malik Abdul Rasheed and ADCR Imran Marwat’s discussion after that the accused Zeeshan Chahana along with his accomplice’s beat him and broke his camera.
Chaudhry Nadeem Khaliq, president of Hasilpur press club told PPF that Malik Abdul Rasheed and Asif Kokhar are members of Hasilpur Press Club they went for coverage of additional deputy commissioner revenue and then they faced this incident. Hasilpur Press Club condemn the action against journalists and demanded the police action as they must take notice and provide justice to journalists.
Farhan ul Huda, editor of Roznama Azad Safar Multan told PPF that we didn’t assign Asif Kokhar this coverage and after the incident, Asif Kokhar didn’t brief Azad Safar about this incident we are not sure about the actual reason of incident. But we condemn this incident.
On 28th January 2022, Assistant Sub-Inspector Babar Ali Shah Hasilpur Police Station told PPF that matter was not as big as Malik Abdul Rasheed telling but Police investigating this case.
On 28th January 2022, Mazhar Ansari Chief Reporter Rohi 24 told PPF that Malik Abdul Rasheed is our district reporter and General Secretary of Electronic Media Association this act is against freedom of expression and we condemns this act."
