Summary of Case
"On May 4th, 2020 Peshawar police manhandled a correspondent of Hum News Mr. Muhammad Ameen for covering a fight between two groups in Muhajir Bazaar of Akora Khattak in Nowshera.
Muhammad Ameen was covering the fight between two groups of Afghan refugees’. The police tried to stop him. Although he proved his journalistic identity, the cops paid no heed and snatched his phone and pointed a gun at him.
Speaking to PPF Mr. Muhammad Amin said He was covering an activity of land grabbers (Group who illegally seizes property) In Nowshera. Both groups attacked on him. According to Ameen, Police was with them So, Police reacted and arrested him. Later on, Police filed fake FIRs against Ameen. He informed Nowshehra’s Electronic Media Committee.
In conversation with PPF, President of Nowshehra’s Electronic Media Committee Mr. Nadeem shah Tipu said, Muhammad Amin was reporting an illegal activity. Land Grabbers attacked him. Police was also involved in that activity so, none of the police station filed FIR. In fact Police made false cases against Muhammad Amin. After protest by journalists, police withdraw the case against him."
