"Orya Maqbool Jan was arrested on May 11, 2023, from his residence in Lahore. Some unknown people arrested Orya Maqbool Jan without showing any FIR or legal notice. Orya Maqbool Jan is currently attending different talk shows as an analyst. Speaking to PPF Aftab Bajwa, the legal counsel of Orya Maqbool Jan said Orya was arrested by the elite force, the police Punjab without any arrest warrant or legal notice and they kept him unknown place. In Lahore High Court two petitions were filed one was from his family and another one was from his legal team, On May 15, in the court hearing Justice Alia Neelum summoned IG Punjab and ordered to produce Orya Maqbool Jan as in the CCTV footage it can be clearly seen that some Elite force’s car picked or arrested the journalist from his residence in DHA Phase 6, Lahore. “Upon the request of IG Punjab Justice Alia Neelum gave some time to the police to recover the journalist however later similar night police sent Orya Maqbool Jan safe and sound to his residence, currently his case has been closed and when Orya Maqbool will be in the normal state he will proceed by himself” Bajwa added. “Orya Maqbool Jan was vocal because of his anti-governmental critiques, and this was the reason he was abducted illegally by police officials,” Bajwa told. Azam Chaudhry, president of the Lahore press club has strongly condemned the arrest of senior journalist Orya Maqbool Jan."
