Summary of Case

"On 20 June, 2020 Journalists Saeed Ali Achakzai, who is former president of Chaman Press Club and works for Samaa TV channel, and Abdul Mateen Achakzai, affiliated with Pushto-language Khyber News channel were third degree tortured, arrested and sent notorious Machh prison in Balochistan after they reported poor facilities at government-run quarantine center.

The two journalists returned from the prison three days after their arrest with torture signs on their bodies. The arrest was without any FIR or warrant.

Chief Minister of KPK Mr. Mehmood Khan condemned.

Speaking to PPF Saeed Ali Achakzai said he and Abdul Mateen Achakzai reported poor facilities at government-run quarantine center where Pakistanis coming from Afghanistan treated for suspected COVID19 virus. He said Deputy Commissioner Rd. Major Muhammad Bashir called them for meeting. When they reached his office for meeting, they arrested them and sent to notorious Machh prison. Then Released after Three days without any FIR registered.

In conversation with PPF, Mr. Ayub Tareen President of Baluchistan Union of Journalists said that after we protested against this unlawful act Provincial government took action and ordered to release the journalists immediately and transferred Deputy Commissioner."
