Summary of Case

"K21 News's ""Cheekh Utha Karachi” host Saima Kanwal received a threatening call by an unknown person on January 3, 2023 for a show on the rights of city Karachi. Saima Kanwal told PPF an unknown caller called her from a private number without introducing himself and he said “What is wrong with you, why are you doing shows on issues of Karachi and why are you crossing the red line?” Saima said the caller was sounding like an educated person and after that she did not receive any call or message. She also said that her organization is fully aware of this issue but she did not feel the need to inform the union, press club or even police. FIR was not registered in this matter. On January 4, 2023 Faheem Siddiqui, general secretary of Karachi union of journalists, told PPF that I have heard about the matter of Saima Kanwal but because she did not involve the union in her matter, however the union is not responsible for commenting on this issue. On January 4, Rizwan Bhatti, former general secretary of Karachi press club told PPF that he is not aware of the case of Saima Kanwal. On January 5, 2023 Mansoor Mani, senior correspondent of K21 told PPF that he has not spoken with Anchor Saima Kanwal on this issue but I have heard that she got threats from a mafia gang. He also said that Saima is one of the most sensible and responsible anchors of K21 and she is currently doing a show on K21 named “Road Show”."
