Summary of Case

"On 18 Jan, 2021 Geo News cameraperson Nasir Mughal was beaten up by the accused and their lawyers while covering the Barrister Fahad Malik murder case outside an anti-terrorism court.

According to geo.tv, Mughal was attacked when he started making footage of the accused leaving the court. The handcuffed accused attacked Mughal in front of the police, tearing his clothes and bruising his face. They also snatched and broke his mobile phone.

Later, the police said Mughal was undergoing a medical examination while a spokesperson for the Islamabad Police said an inquiry would be initiated. Meanwhile, an application has been submitted to an Islamabad ATC judge against the assault.

Asma Sherazi, Qadir Khan Yousafzai, Hamid Mir, and other journalists condemned the attack. Sherazi, in her tweet, said the court ""should take action against the culprits.""

Barrister Fahad Malik, a nephew of former Senate chairman and incumbent Federal Minister for Privatization Muhammad Mian Soomro, was murdered in the F-10/3 sector in Islamabad on August 15, 2016.

Mr. Nasir Mughal told PPF that “I went to court early morning for the coverage of barrister Fawad Malik and when I started making video of him Fawad’s people and his lawyers started beating me. They were approx. 15 to 20 people who beat me badly and then I launched the FIR regarding the incident in Ramna Police Station. The case is under investigation because my medical is still left to be done. However, the case is presented to FA-8 Magistrate Mr. Badar.

Secretary of National Press Club Mr. Anwar Raza told PPF that National press club strongly condemn the incident and pressuring the case with Nasir Mughal as he’s a member of National Press Club.

On Mar 13, 2021 President Islamabad Press Club Mr. Shakeel Anjum said that Nasir Mughal was beaten by a lawyer over making footage of the accused in a case of Raja Arshad. We asked him to take stand, We are with him. But, He refused and said I will handle this matter.
