Islamabad High Court (IHC) summoned case of harassing journalists by FIA

ISLAMABAD: On Friday, the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court (IHC) Athar Minallah summoned the case on the petition of senior Anchorperson Sami Ibrahim where the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) accused him of provoking the public against institutions, BOL News reports.

FIA officials argued that Sami Ibrahim conveyed the message to the public on-screen to stand up against the institutions and directly hit the army chief. Chief Justice gave significant remarks on the statements of the FIA that these arguments do not fall on the list of crimes.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah asked FIA officials how the public can be provoked by the anchor.

“Whatever did Sami Ibrahim say on-screen can be against journalistic values, but how can it become a crime?” Athar Minnallah questioned.

FIA told the Islamabad High court that Sami Ibrahim did not come to record his statement. Athar Minallah gave a verdict to Sami Ibrahim to reach FIA for the purpose.

Anchor Sami Ibrahim’s lawyer presented before the court that the journalist respect the armed forces and the constitution. Pakistan Federation Union of Journalists (PFUJ) should consult with FIA officials.

The court adjourned the hearing till June 21
