Summary of Case
"Saeed Khan, a freelance journalist, was arrested by the Ferozabad police over the charges of vandalising a local restaurant in Karachi, Sindh. FIR was registered by the police official in police station Firozabad, Karachi, on March 25, 2023. Speaking to PPF, Saeed Khan told PPF that he works as a freelance journalist. He is more active on social media and is a member of the Karachi journalists union. Saeed runs a Facebook page called “Karachi News Point.” Saeed said he went to Angeethi restaurant, a local restaurant in Karachi, to dine in, and there he witnessed the fight between the administrations. He made a video of the battle and uploaded it on his social media account, and after uploading it, the journalist was arrested by the Ferozabad police under sections 147, 149, 427, 332, 110 and 504. “After the arrest, they released me after 24 hours and in the FIR, my name was not even nominated; I asked them why they arrested me; they did not respond; I wanted justice. This arrest was not fair,” Khan told PPF. Saeed Sarbazi, president of the Karachi press club, told PPF that Saeed is not a member of the Karachi press club; however, the press club did not investigate his case and cannot update you on this matter, as he does not belong to the Karachi press club. Ehsan Channa, the investigation officer of Ferozabad police station, told PPF that police had arrested three suspects for violating and vandalising the restaurant. “We have arrested three suspects, Qayyum, Jamal and Saeed, and after investigating and interrogating the matter, we released them after 24 hours; we did not arrest anyone for making videos and spreading any news”, Channa added. "
