Summary of Case

"Khyber News, Peshawar, team including Correspondent Malik Ismail and his Cameraperson Sardar Ali Yousafzai received a complaint from the locals that a local quack Doctor Haider Ali was busy in some “illegal activities.” When the team visited the clinic of the doctor on 14 July 2023 the doctor threatened the crew members and said he would order his security guard to kill them both for doing coverage and making videos in his clinic without permission. Later, officials of the Health Department also reached the spot and asked the homeopathic doctor Ali, to produce legal documents to which he failed after which doctor was arrested by Police Station Faqeerabad police for threatening the journalists and serving as a homeopathic doctor without legal documents and license. No First Information Report (FIR) has been registered by Ismail, as the doctor was arrested by the police officials same day. Speaking to PPF, Malik Ismail shared that he usually does a program, following for his program’s coverage on quack homeopathic doctor Ali who was using steroids in the medicines and illegally serving as a doctor in Peshawar without any documentation and license. “My cameraman Sardar Yousufzai and I went to cover the corruption of a quack doctor along with the health commission, and Additional Assistant Commissioner, Misbah Waheed to raid the clinic and arrest the culprit doctor, due to the strong connections with the police, doctor was released on same day of his arrest which was July 14” Ismail added. Ismail also additionally shared that since July 14 his cameraman Sardar Ali Yousufzai was scared and he is not switching his phone on due to these threats. On August 26, 2023 Khyber News Peshawar Senior Reporter Hazrat Muhammad Khan told PPF that health commission team raided on the private clinic of a local doctor who was serving as a homeopathic doctor without license in Peshawar. “Ismail and Yousufzai went to cover the event as they were invited by the health commission for coverage of the raid, but when the doctor got arrested after his arrest when he was released on the same day, he threatened and misbehaved with Ismail and said he did unethical journalism by making videos of women who were present in the clinic at the time of raid, he will bare the consequences and he will legally peruse the case in the court” Khan added. On August 26, Khyber Union of Journalist President Nasir Hussain told PPF that the case of Ismail and Yousafzai was contradictory as they went to clinic for coverage but as the doctor stated in his version that they made videos of women as well who were there for their follow up treatment with the doctor and without taking their permission they started making videos of the raid which was ethically wrong. “This is highly condemnable act that doctor threatened the journalist who went to cover the raid of the non-licensed doctor, but we cannot neglect the fact that they made videos of women and children without taking their permission this is also not acceptable also, it is a request to all the journalists and reporters in Peshawar to always ensure the ethics and true meanings of journalism before doing coverage” Hussain added."
