Summary of Case

"On Feb 4, 2022, GTV team including female journalist Aftab Jahan and cameraperson Rizwan Ali was harassed outside the Federal Government Poly Clinic Hospital, Islamabad, Pakistan.

On Feb 4, 2022 Aftab Jahan told PPF that she and her cameraperson Rizwan was recording the situation of Covid cases and SOPs violation outside the Poly clinic hospital when 8 to 10 persons came there and misbehaved with her, they also use abusive language and broke the camera.

The attackers were continuously using abusive language and threatened team GTv to stop coverage, Aftab added.

Aftab Jahan shared with PPF that some persons were trafficking medical equipment from the hospital in a vehicle, which may be illegal as in the near past they covered the illegal trafficking of medicines and other medical equipment from the same hospital.

FIR of the incident is not yet registered.

""We also faced the same harassment by the hospital staff previously when we were trying to cover the SOPs violation inside the hospital"", Aftab added.

On Feb 4, 2022 Mateen Haider, bureau chief of GTV strongly condemned the attack on team GTV and demanded immediate action from the authorities. This is an attack on freedom of the press, the team was on their routine duty and were reporting from outside of the hospital, they did not interfere in the hospital's work.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr. Faisal Sultan and National Command Operation Center (NCOC) should take notice of the matter, Mateen added.

""We have submitted applications in all relevant departments, We will register FIR according to the recently passed Journalist Protection Act"", Mateen told PPF.
