Summary of Case

On 18 May, 2021, fake case has been registered against six journalists in Umerkot by officer of the Health Department named Shuja Memon.

On June 1, 2021 Mr. Ali Murad Dal correspondent of PTV and Avi Go Sawami correspondent of Daily Phenji & Times News told PPF that on 18- May-21 there was a shortage of COVID-19 vaccine outside the Health Department of Umerkot so we including our other friends including journalists Allah Jorio Soomro Secretary General of Umerkot Press Club, Mushtaq Qumbahar correspondent of Sindh express News, Dilbar Bhaiya and ex-Journalists who’s a Government employee now and Niaz rajha reporter of Mehran TV posted that news on our social media accounts, so the officer of the Health Department named Shuja Memon was angry on that. Secondly, World Health organization (WHO) gave news motorbikes to health department for the vaccinators for different vaccination process but Shuja Memon didn’t gave them to the vaccinators and put them in his cattle fence when we on aired news regarding it on our channels Shuja Memon became very angry on us due to this on May 21, 21 he filed fake application in Umerkot city police station that we did robbery in his house, police called both of us and we told that we can’t did it we are journalists and ran stories against him that’s why he’s doing so and when no clue found against us police didn’t file against us. Shuja Memon on May 31, 21 filed case against us in Mirpurkhas Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) that we robbed 1 lakh from his house as his legal lawyer Mr. Masood Laghari has good connections in court the Mirpurkhas Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) issued unbailable warrants against us.

On June 4, 21 Ali Murad Dal told PPF that Sindh high Court allowed Interim guarantee to us for five days. We will visit tomorrow to Mirpurkhas Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) for the confirmed bail before arrest. The first hearing of the case will be at June 24, 21.

President of Umerkot Press Club told PPF that we strongly condemn the incident and making strategy for what we have to do further. This is a duty of a journalist to report what is going wrong and on his reports no one should file a case. We are with the affected journalists.

Station House Office (SHO) Khalil Qambahar told PPF that the application is still the application as Shuja Memon directly filed case in court so we are following the court orders. The hearing will be on court on 24 June so we will do according to court decision. I can’t share the application with you as this is our legal and official paper.

On June 4, 21 Senior News producer of Pakistan Television (PTV) told PPF that we strongly condemn the case and demand authorities to take action against Shuja Memon so no one will future will able to stop journalist for their journalism.
