Summary of Case
"On June 20th 2022, the deputy commissioner of Kohat, decided to suspend internet services in Kurram, Kohat, therefore, a decision was taken over due to the current law and order situation in Kohat. On June 22nd 2022, a district reporter of Express TV, Zahir Khan Bangash, told PPF that the news given was baseless. And that there was no such statements issued from the District Administration. A radio producer, Habib Ur Rehman, told PPF that the internet services were not going to be suspended in Kohat, but he assumed that the internet service in Kurram would be suspended due to the current situations then which were based on religious based violence going on between the Sunnis and Shias divide which are two castes in the Muslim religion. Faisal Nadeem, General Secretary of Kohat press club, informed PPF that he was not aware of this news or any announcement regarding internet suspension in the Kohat Division. Syed Alim Haider, a reporter from Aaj News, from district Kurram, told PPF that the situation of Kurram agency isn’t normal since prior days because of the two religious divisions spreading religious-based violence. Therefore, the deputy commissioner Kurram agency had decided to suspend the internet service in the Kurram agency to restrict the spreading of violence for an indefinite period. He mentioned then that the internet service wasn’t suspended yet but it will be suspended soon."
