Summary of Case
On 23 Sep, 2020 Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued notice to M/s Gold Cable Network over the distribution of illegal Indian channels and content on its network.
The regulator also warned all TV networks to stop illegal distribution of Indian channels and telecast only Pakistani content.
According to a press release, PEMRA has started a crackdown against cable operators involved in violations. The operation team headed by Sheraz Asghar Sheikh, deputy general manager, conducted surprise inspections of various cable operators in Karachi.
PEMRA said that Gold Cable Network was involved in the distribution of illegal Indian channels and Indian content on CDs on its network. Ten satellite receivers, two internet devices, two CPUs, six modulators and two transmitters were seized at the spot.
"Show cause notice has also been issued to M/s Gold Cable Network on violating PEMRA law and the same will be preceded per law. The regional office has also ordered all cable operators to strictly follow PEMRA Rules and Regulations, failing which the authority will take actions as per law," the release said.
