Court released journalist as complainant himself denied the FIR

Summary of Case

On 30 March, 2021 The Mangho Pir Police Station in Karachi arrested Daily Riyasat and KNN News channel's Noor Islam after a First Information Report was lodged against him under Section 385 and 386 of Pakistan Penal Code and 7 Anti-Terrorism Act.

The journalist highlighted alleged crimes of local police that they are involved in illegal drugs sale in the area.

On April 24, 2021 Speaking to PPF Noor Islam said a fake FIR of Extortion was filed against him in Mangho Pir police station. The case was presented in Anti-terrorism court on 1st April, 2021.

The court gave remand to CIA, after investigation no evidence was found even the complainant Abdul Razzaq himself denied that Noor never demanded money and he don’t even know Noor. He was released after 4 days.

On April 26, 2021 investigation officer Khalid Arain told PPF that the case of extortion against Noor Islam is closed now as it proved wrong. Meanwhile he gave application against SHO to Additional IG. SHO has been removed from his post till the complete investigation.

Mr. Muhammad Nawazish Bureau Chief KNN told that Noor Islam is our district reporter and he faced fake FIR because of his news reports regarding illegal activities in the area.
