Summary of Case

"On 18 Feb, 2021 a group of armed men allegedly kidnapped a journalist Saifullah Jan, a correspondent for the Associated Press of Pakistan, Daily Islam and a member of the Charsadda Press Club general body from a bakery in the Sardheri Chowk in a broad daylight subjected him to torture, dragged him to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) office, humiliated him there and video filmed the criminal act.

The Sardheri Police registered a case and arrested accused. The main accused in the kidnapping and torture case, Abdullah, is a local leader of the PTI and his brother is a District Zakat Committee chairman.

Pakistan Federal union of Journalists (PFUJ) condemned the attack and demanded that police should take action against the responsible and investigate the case fairly.

In conversation with PPF, Saifullah Jan said that He was at his shop when some PTI workers came and allegedly tortured and humiliated him at gunpoint and dragged him to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) office, for posting information regarding their illegal activities. They first tortured him on 15 Jan, 2021 for which He submitted application in police station. When Police filed the FIR after early investigation they attacked him again.

According to President of Charsadda Press Club Mr. Subz Ali Khan Tareen said that Saifullah used to post against PTI on his Social Media so, local PTI officials attacked him. We condemn this act. On 20 Apr, 21 while talking to PPF Additional Head Moharrar M. Arshad from Sardheri Police Station said that accused got arrested, Challan has been presented against accused and they are on bail now. The case is in district court Charsadda.

On Jan 26th, 2021 Saifullah Jan told PPF that the case is still under hearing in District Court Charsadda, next hearing will be on Feb 22, 2022. "
