Summary of Case

On 8th Feb, 2020 Sajid Noor, a reporter with Vsh News and Bureau Chief of an Urdu newspaper Daily Intikhab cameraman Rehan Bizenjo, suffered minor injuries in a knife attack in Pasni, Baluchistan province, Pakistan.

Talking to the PPF Noor who is also President of Pasni Press Club said that the man attacked them was Rahim Jan and he was an employee of the Pasni Fish Harbour Authority (PFHA). He added that the incident took place when he along with Bizenjo was buying stuff at a bakery.

Noor believed that they were attacked by the PFHA because they ran an investigative story that it received Rs800 million from Japan to invest in the authority, but it misappropriated funds. He added that Rahim Jan also gave them life threats.

He lamented that many journalists are attacked when they publish investigative pieces, but no action is taken against the culprits.

An FIR was registered against Rahim Jan at the Pasni police station. On February 9, 2020 he was arrested.

Pasni police station Sub-Inspector Abid Baloch confirmed the arrest of Rahim Jan. “According to initial probe, Rahim Jan is a local and a drug addict. He is not an employee of PFHA. At present, he is in a judicial lock-up and further investigation in being carried out,” he stated.

Hazara Democratic Party Chairman Abdul Khaliq, Hazara Public Accounts Committee Chairman Akhtar Hussain, opposition leader Malik Sikander, Advocate Senator Naseebullah, Speaker Baluchistan Mir Abdul Qadoos Bizenjo condemned the incident.

Mr. Sajid Noor told PPF that accused Rahim Jan (Employee of Pasni Fish Harbour Authority (PFHA) were arrested. The case was in Judicial Magistrate Pasni court till January 2021. Now we settled the matter with mutual understanding. Case has been closed now.
