Summary of Case
"On April 30, Sajjad Chandio, a reporter for Mehran TV from Mehar in Dadu, Sindh, was attacked by the drug mafia. They beat him injured his head, and also opened fire on him over reporting on selling drugs, but he remained safe in the attack while he was sitting at his bike showroom. An FIR registered under section V/S 324,147,148,149,504,357 AiFi 337 H2 506/2 PPC. FIR number: 130/24. Riaz Chandio, brother of Sajjad and district reporter for Mehran TV, told PPF that Sajjad was at his bike showroom when the gang of drug dealers attacked him and injured him. He further told PPF that this gang had been disturbing them for a long time in different ways like rushing to our house and threatening our watchman, but we didn’t do anything and continued our journalism. Sajjad told PPF that he was sitting at his bike showroom when 10 people came to attack him but four attacked him and beat him and hit him with guns on his head as well as fired on him but he managed to escape. Sajjad further told PPF that they had sorted the case and did not want an investigation as he was a powerful and wealthy individual and the police would not do anything against him. Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) executive council member Khalid Khokhar told PPF that the attackers attacked Sajjad over the issue of reporting on ICE drugs selling reporting in the city. Khokhar told PPF that we talked with the police then and asked them to file a complaint but no arrest had been made. Mehar Head Moharrar Ghulam Muhammad told PPF that the police were conducting an investigation. No arrests had been made yet. He said that as Sajjad and the attackers had sorted the matter, they had informed him that the FIR is going to be discarded. Mehran TV News Editor Farrukh Kohar told PPF that the drug mafia and ice sellers group attacked on Sajjad while he was sitting at his bikes showroom and told PPF that Sajjad had left the case as the attacker is so powerful and he can’t fight with him."
