Summary of Case

"Geo News Cameraman Samiullah Khan got injured in the bomb blast during the JUI-F worker’s convention in Bajaur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Jul 30, 2023. The bomb blast took place when the JUI-F worker's convention was held in Bajaur. Speaking to PPF, Samiullah said that he is in the district headquarters hospital right now and for the operation, he will be shifted to GHQ Peshawar hospital. Recalling the incident, Khan said that he was near the stage when the blast happened and he was covering and was busy taking pictures then suddenly I got faint due to the massive explosion, only I was there for the coverage. ‘Due to the serious head injuries my operation will be in Peshawar” Khan added. Bureau Chief of Geo News Peshawar Shakeel Farman told PPF that Khan was injured during the blast but fortunately, he remained safe he did not wear any safety tools before the blast as it was not expected but after this definitely the correspondents and media professionals will wear the safety tolls in these conventions. Bajaur Press Club President, Hasbanullah Khan strongly condemned the blast and sent the prayers for speedy recovery of victim journalist Samiullah. Bajaur Press Club issued a condemning statement and demanded a fair investigation by the authorities as 46 people have been killed while 90 people are injured including Geo News photojournalist Samiullah, who was present at that time for the coverage. “Authorities should ensure the treatment of Samiullah for his speedy recovery” Hasbanullah. Khyber Union of Journalists President Nasir Hussain condemned the blast and expressed grief over the injured journalist and said that in Bajaur hardly any correspondent is getting their salaries, and he was the cameraperson for Geo News he was not even provided the safety tools which should be a mandatory tool for the reporters and media professionals. No one reported any other casualty related to media professionals or journalists during the blast to the union. Misbahuddin, PPF IR Batch 13 fellow Misbah uddin told PPF that only Samiullah was on duty as the convention was held in the local area of Bajaur and only Khan was responsible to provide the pictures or images to the media organisations. ""Upon reference by the authorities tomorrow Khan will be shifted to Peshawar for further operation of his head injury"" Misbahuddin added."
