Summary of Case

"Sheeba Haider, correspondent of Geo News faced mistreatment by Sherina Gul a polio campaign manager in Cantonment hospital Peshawar where Haider went for news coverage with the consent of hospital staff on January 17, 2023. Haider did not take any legal action and the matter was resolved with a verbal apology and transfer of Sherina gul from the hospital. Sheeba Haider told PPF that Gul misbehaved with her in hospital premises and she broke her mobile phone to cover the polio campaign. “Sherina Gul is transferred now from the hospital and the hospital staff gave 4000 rupees to me as compensation but the behavior of the staff was not tolerable, that was not the way how she misbehaved with me I was just making the footage and they broke the cell phone and the cell phone was of my office” Haider added. Nasir Hussain, president of Khyber Union of Journalists told PPF that the matter of journalist Haider is related to journalist safety. The reporter was performing her duty with the permission of the administration to cover the news story in hospital. “We condemned this issue and due to our condemnation the polio staffer came to Peshawar press club and apologized with Sheeba and also promised to compensate the loss however the matter was resolved on verbal apology” Hussain told. Muhammad Irfan Moosazai, general secretary of Peshawar press club told PPF that Haider was manhandled for coverage of the polio campaign. “However the matter was resolved by the polio staff as they verbally apologized to the journalist” Irfan said. Rasool Dawar, senior correspondent Geo news told PPF that the matter was related to journalism however the matter is closed now as the polio staff apologized and are ready to compensate with the journalist for her loss. Shakeel Farman Ali, Incharge Geo News Peshawar told PPF that he is not aware of the incident properly."
