Summary of Case

"On August 13, 2022 Express News Journalist Rizwan Ghilzai told PPF that yesterday during court trial of Shehbaz Gill outside of the court few media persons were there to cover the event and he also ran towards the car of the police to interact Shehbaz Gill on that point one of the police official stopped him and id violence with him only for interacting with Shehbaz Gill. He also added that he is senior parliamentary beat reporter in express news and this is incident happened with him quite times and the behavior of Islambad police is quite disappointing towards journalists, On August 13, 2022 in morning police repeated the same behavior with other Journalists as well. PFUJ, RIUJ and social media union of Journalists strongly condemn this act, he also said SHO, DPO officials later contacted him for suspending the police officer but he said that police officer who did violence was newly elected and he did not want to ruin his career on his start he just asked for the justice and ask for good behavior towards Journalists. Also he did not file any FIR or compliant against the police official. Rizwan is currently affiliated with Express News and also Assistant Secretary of PFUJ. On August 13, 2022 Express News Journalist Waqas Ali told PPF that Rizwan Ghilzai was covering Shehbaz Gill’s court remand on August 12, 2022 when police attacked on him and stopped him from covering and making videos of Shehbaz Gill. He further said that this act is against of freedom of expression and Fellow journalists want to protest against this act also organization is supporting Rizwan in this matter as he is responsible and senior reporter of express news. On August 13, 2022 Fellow of PPF Usman Malik told PPF that during the court trial of Shehbaz Gill, Journalist Rizwan Ghilzai was under attack by police he further added that Rizwan is a senior reporter and affiliated with reputable media house and very honest Journalist such act by police is highly condemnable. We also tried to call Islamabad press club’s president Anwar Raza but he is not responding. Also attaching press release by RIUJ."
